Some of the Foxies headed west this month for Babes Ride Out 4. If you haven't heard of BRO, well then, you may be living under a rock. It's an all-women motorcycle event held annually in Joshua Tree, California. Their moto is "Good Times, Good Friends, Two Wheels" and let me just say that there is nothing truer. Ashmore Ellis and Anya Violet are the founders of this magnificent event and this year they did not disappoint. The camping was incredible under a vast starry sky at night and the riding was beyond this world! Zipping through Joshua Tree National Park is like exploring another planet. The Joshua trees look as though they've jumped off the pages of a Dr. Seuess book and the road winds constantly between vistas.
We also rode out to the Salton Sea and Salvation Mountain. While we were there one of the locals pointed us to a natural spring which cooled us off at just the right time. So surreal to be in such a dry climate and find cold rushing water coming up from the ground!
One of the most scenic rides of our trip was through the San Bernardino National Forest. We climbed more than 5,000 feet and found nestled at the top of the mountain the quaint and artsy town of Idyllwild. We enjoyed a nice lunch outdoors at one of the local restaurants before hopping back on two-wheels and heading into the San Jacinto Mountains near Palm Springs.
Back at camp, there was so much to see and do.... THE Jessi Combs giving instruction on metal fabrication (she is fantastic, by the way!), awesome raffle prizes like custom-painted helmets from super-talented female artists, yummy food, cold bevs, merchandise galore, and oh.... did we mention there was something called a "Brodeo!" You know. A mechanical bull, of course. ;)
All in all, Babes Ride Out cannot be beat. If you are a female motorcyclist and haven't been to BRO yet, mark your calendar for October 2017 now. It is seriously the experience of a lifetime. And the best part of the entire thing are the ladies you meet. It's hard to describe what 1,600 babes on motorcycles in the desert feels like. Pretty fucking amazing! That's how.
